THe Girl I was Before

Riding in the backseat
Waiting for a song to play
Follow the sun in the blue sky
Down the road on a summer day

It was 75 I was so alive
My world was an open door
Now ain’t it a shame I’m not the same
As the girl I was before

Driving in the front seat
Got both hands on the wheel
Burning thru this ride so fast
I’ve forgotten how to feel

Then that song plays on the radio
And the world just fades away
Those memories sweep over me
Like sunlight on a summer day

Like 75 I’m still alive
And the world is my dance floor
Ain’t no shame I’m just the same
Girl in my heart like I was before

Honestly, I started writing poems in 1982 because I wasn't a very good singer. Some things never change.
